The liturgical day is punctuated by the celebration of the Divine Office which periodically brings souls back into direct contact with God: at dawn, the solemn hour of lauds; then, from three in three hours, the "small hours", tierce, sext and none  ; then the solemn hour of vespers, and compline before sleep. Such is the day service, to which must be added the night service, the vigils, made up of one or more nocturnes.
