St Clare of Assisi Statue
St. Clare of Assisi was born in 1193 into an Italian noble family. She left home when she was 18 inspired by the teaching of St Francis of Assisi and became one of his first followers.
In 1212 St. Clare founded the Order of Poor Ladies, known today as the Order of St. Clare, a monastic religious order for women in the Franciscan tradition.
St Clare died in 1253, her feast is August 11th.
